Frequently Asked Questions

I often get a lot of inquiries about the work I do from students and aspiring illustrators so I made a page to answer the most frequently asked questions.(Note: This is only what has worked for me)

Q. What programs do you use?
A. Procreate on my iPad to start most of my pieces, Photoshop and Clip Studio on my Cintiq to finish.
Q. What brushes do you use?
A. I've been using Jama Jurabaev and Sergey Kolesov's brush packs for years. I download a lot of miscellaneous brushes and paper textures that I stumble across online from other illustrators and concept artists as well. I also create a lot of my own ink/paper texture packs traditionally and recently started experimenting with making my own brushes as well.
Q. How did you do work for [big licensed property]?
A. This is the question I get asked most often. I get a lot of my officially licensed work from my agency, Poster Posse/MEOCKA. It was through them that I got my art seen by major film studios and I now work as a freelancer for a lot of them. I get most of my other work through peer recommendations and shooting my shot through emails.
Q. Did you go to art school?
A. Yes, I went to MICA and graduated in 2018. I also had the privilege of having an awesome mentor (Tracie Ching) who mentored me in freelancing (through her program called We Create) after college as well as taking online classes in illustration and concept art every now and then. I highly recommend budding illustrators to find a mentor if you can because having the right one to point you in the right direction while you're still figuring out your voice will be life-changing.
Q. I am an art student who needs to interview an artist for my college assignment. Do I have your permission to copy and paste your answers?
A. Yes… :}
